Spy x Family Vol. 1

This is the most ridiculous setup that somehow makes perfect sense.
Twilight is a spy. He needs a fake family to get close to a target. He adopts Anya, who can read minds but nobody knows. Then he accidentally marries Yor, who’s an assassin. None of them know each other’s secrets. It’s chaos and I love it.
Anya is the best character in any book I’ve read this year. She’s six and her reactions to everyone’s internal thoughts are SO funny. The face she makes when Loid (Twilight) thinks something serious while saying something normal — I laughed out loud on the bus.
What I liked
- Every character is lying but they’re all trying to be good people. That’s interesting.
- The art is clean and easy to follow. Good for reading fast.
- Bond the dog isn’t even in this volume much but I’m already excited.
What I didn’t like
- It’s a bit short? I wanted more pages.
- Some of the spy stuff goes over my head but it doesn’t matter because Anya carries everything.
Verdict
Funny, smart, and not just “funny manga” where nothing happens. Read it. Then watch the anime if your parents let you.
